Norwich City have signed Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour on loan for the new season. The Scotland international will spent the entire duration of the 2021/22 season at CarrowRoad after the Canaries confirmed the season-long loan deal earlier on Friday.
Former Rangers youth player Gilmour made 11 appearances for West London giants Chelsea in all competitions including three starts in the Premier League. He was an unused substitute as Chelsea beat Premier League champions Manchester City in the Champions League final to win a second title in the history of the competition. Gilmour was also not subbed on from the Chelsea during the FA Cup final which ended in a 1-0 defeat to Leicester City.
Norwich City were not the only team interested in taking Gilmour on loan from Chelsea. Former club Rangers wanted to take the midfielder on loan for the new season but Chelsea wanted to send the player to a Premier League team. In his first interview as a Norwich City player, Gilmour said he’s delighted to sign for the newly promoted club.
