Chelsea have seen an opening bid for Wayne Rooney rejected by Manchester United, the Mirror understands.
It is reported that the Blues have offered £10m plus a player, thought to be either David Luiz or Juan Mata for the England international, who’s days with the Premier League champions appear to be numbered.
The 27 year old is said to be ‘angry and confused’ at comments made by David Moyes, who suggested that the striker is behind Robin Van Persie in the pecking order at Old Trafford.
Rooney has been linked with a move away from the Theatre of Dreams since the end of last season, when former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that the player had handed in a transfer request.
The former Everton man denied that that was the case, though doubts over his future have remained since the appointment of David Moyes as manager.
During his first press conference as United boss, Moyes stated categorically that Rooney was not for sale, though it remained unclear how the player himself felt.
However, the comments regarding Rooney’s role in the team appear to have pushed him further towards the Old Trafford exit door, where a number of elite clubs, including Chelsea, will lie in wait.
