Chelsea defender David Luiz has said that
he has been impressed with Maurizio Sarri’s philosophy during the course of the
current campaign. The Blues have endured a mixed season by their standards in
the Premier League but they are still on course to make the top four, provided
they win their remaining two games of the season.
Speaking to Metro, Luiz said that he has
been amazed with the tactical nous of Sarri, who has opted to play more possession
of the ball. He added that some of the Blues players are still adapting to the
new brand of football and it may take a bit longer before the club are
completing in sync with the manager’s demands.
He said: “It’s a philosophy to have a lot
of possession, create a lot of opportunities and he has tried to introduce that
to us. I think he has already done amazing as in the past people were saying Chelsea
don’t control the game, Chelsea don’t play with a lot of the ball, Chelsea just
plays counter-attacks’ everyone was criticising Chelsea. Now we control the
games and sometimes they criticise us because we don’t win the game with a lot
of possession. I think his philosophy is amazing, it’s trying to play football.
This takes time and we are trying to improve as soon as possible.”
Chelsea have been in-and-out of the Champions League places over the course of the season but they are currently placed fourth on the table. Nonetheless, they are just two points ahead of fifth-placed Arsenal and they need to secure victories during their final two matches against Watford and Leicester City to ensure qualification to the Champions League next term.
The west London giants can attain the same
by winning the Europa League title, but that remains far off at the moment,
considering they first need to overcome Eintracht Frankfurt at the last four of
the competition. If they are successful, they could face either Valencia or
Arsenal during the final in Baku.
Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko has reportedly undergone a successful medical with Chelsea ahead of his proposed move later in the week.
The France international was one of the many standout performers for Monaco last season as they ended Paris Saint-Germain’s stranglehold on the title. Bakayoko was initially associated with a move to Old Trafford, but Antonio Conte managed to convince him to join the Blues with the assurance of regular first-team football.
According to The Express, the player has already had a series of medical tests with the west London giants, and the move will become official as early as Saturday – when the transfer window reopens. Monaco were initially said to have been playing hardball in negotiations over Bakayoko, but they have eventually agreed on a £35m sum in order to sell the former Rennes man. Continue reading
John Terry played his final game for Chelsea on May 21 of 2017 as he performed for his club in their match against Sunderland which concluded with the team of Antonio Conte claiming a 5-1 triumph.
The 36 year old English defender made a speech about his time spent in Stamford Bridge as he made over 700 appearances with more than 15 years of playing time at the English Premier League club but his time has finally reached it’s end.
“One of the most difficult days of my life. Thank you will never, ever be enough, but I’ll tell you what: I’ll be back here one day. I’m going to be supporting the players and the club from the bottom of my heart. You’ve given me everything from the age of 17 when I first started out. You picked me up when I was down, sung my name when I’ve had bad days and disappointed you as well.” Continue reading
BranislavIvanovic has stated that he accepts his current situation after being dropped to the bench by Antonio Conte.
He said that he has no hard feelings towards the manager and that he wants to do his best for the team. He believes that the manager has made the best decision by choosing the most in-form players and that he will accept the situation at the moment.
Indeed BranislavIvanovic has been a major player for Chelsea under Jose Mourinho and seems to have now lost his first place in the team. The defender said that he understands the situation and that he will be training hard in order to win his place back in the team.
The player has been criticized for the past months, and it seems that Antonio Conte has finally decided to replace him in the team. Indeed the player has been the culprit of many mistakes that have gifted opposition goals against Chelsea. Many pundits believe that BranislavIvanovic may have a hard time in getting his place back in the team and that at the moment Antonio Conte has different alternatives in this position.
Neither Alexandre Pato or Radamel Falcao have been making impressive performances in Stamford Bridge and both of them have returned to their parent clubs as Chelsea did not opt to extend their respective loan deals any further.
Both of those players were signed on loan deals and Chelsea had the option to extend their respective deals for a longer period of time but after disappointing, the head chiefs of the Premier League club decided to not risk spending more time or money in them as they returned to their original parent clubs and Chelsea
are now setting their sights on other players who might be signed during the summer transfer window.
The attacking department of Chelsea is one of the areas that Antonio Conte is expected to reinforce the most as the main goal-scorer of the Premier League club is Diego Costa but the Brazilian attacker has not been performing at his usual best. In the 2015-16 Premier League season, he scored only 12 goals which is a significant drop in goals compared to the 2014-15 season when he scored 20, almost double. Continue reading
The second half of the campaign has been excellent for Chelsea, according to interim manager Guus Hiddink.
He replaced Jose Mourinho midway through the campaign. At the time of his arrival, there was even a possibility of relegation battle for Chelsea. Such was the incredible fall from grace for the 2015-16 champions that Hiddink was largely expected to not make much of an impact in terms of league position. This has been true to a certain extent, as Chelsea have been only able to make it back into the top 10 of the table.
They have missed out on top four qualification and will not be playing in the Champions League or Europa League next season. This will be the first time Chelsea are without any form of European football since the arrival of Roman Abramovich in 2003. However, Hiddink says that the damage was done in the first half of the season. Since his arrival, Chelsea have lost only a handful of matches in all competitions. Just like in his first spell as the interim manager, Hiddink has revealed that he will not be staying at the club beyond the end of the campaign. The club decided to go for Italy boss Antonio Conte on a three-year contract. Continue reading
Guus Hiddink believes that Chelsea were disappointing in the 3-0 loss against Manchester City because some of the players may have started to focus on the Euro 2016.
The summer bonanza is now the biggest prize for many of the Chelsea players like Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas, and so on. The large number of European-based players in the Chelsea squad could be blamed for the loss, according to Hiddink. The blues were lambasted by several pundits for their unprofessional attitude in this game. For much of the opening minutes, Chelsea played with zest and endeavour but they were undone by a fortunate goal for City.
Sergio Aguero’s effort to a huge deflection from Gary Cahill’s foot to get past Thibaut Courtois. The goalkeeper was later sent off in the game after conceding a penalty. Aguero scored his hat-trick, but Chelsea will look back on two of them being fortunate. The club, though, were frequently exposed on the counter-attack by the brilliant Samir Nasri and Kevin De Bruyne. Chelsea players will want to finish the season as soon as possible. It has been one to forget after the club underwent a managerial change once again. Finishing outside the top four will feel like a new feeling for most connected with the club, but they will have to accept the disappointment of not being in Europe next season. Continue reading
Liverpool legend Didi Hamann claims that Chelsea should stop their pursuit of a new manager and instead look at the possibility of appointing Guus Hiddink on a permanent basis.
The Dutchman has come back to Chelsea for a second spell as the interim manager. It looks almost certain that he will not stay at the club beyond the season. Chelsea have been linked with a number of managers like Pep Guardiola and Massimiliano Allegri. However,Hamann says that Chelsea are failing to recognise that they have a wonderful manager on their hands already. Hiddink suffered only one defeat in his previous spell as the interim manager.
This impeccable record looks set to continue, as he has so far been able to avoid defeat in all competitions. If that can be a complaint on Hiddink, it can be the lack of victories. Chelsea have been involved in a number of draws since the arrival of the Dutchman. They are not good enough to help the club get in contention for the top four. Just one league victory in the last five matches means that the club are still several points away from getting into the top six. After the Guardiola option was recently ruled out, Massimiliano Allegri has been made as the favourite to take over. Continue reading
In June of 2014, Thibaut Courtois made his return to Chelsea as the Belgian goal-keeper ended his loan deal with Athletic Madrid and sparked a shockwave in Stamford Bridge and the Premier League as the 22 year old player is arguably one of the best players of the top tier league with sublime performances in every match he plays in.
The remarkable season that Courtois is going through is great news for Chelsea as the club has only conceded 26 goals in 30 matches but at the same time this also brings negative consequences for other players who have had to be sidelined for the majority of the season and Petr Cech is the player who has had his spot snatched away from him.
Rumors are now claiming that Chelsea are prepared to sell Petr Cech and have placed a price tag of €10 million for the experienced shot-stopper who is being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.
Petr Cech has a contract with Chelsea which extends until the end of the 2015-16 season but if the contract could be terminated depending on the situation of the player and the club. If Mourinho wants to sell Cech, then he could be offloaded and it does seem like Cech will be exiting Stamford in the summer transfer window as the player has already stated on a number of occasions that he wants to join a club where he can have a secured regular starting spot.
