Blues closing in on Matic

The Mail Online understands that Chelsea are close to agreeing a deal that will see Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic return to Stamford Bridge, two-and-a-half years after he moved in the opposite direction.

The 25 year old was initially used as a makeweight in David Luiz’s transfer to Chelsea, and now looks set to return to West London with a medical expected on Tuesday.

During his first spell with the Blues, he made just three substitute appearances before spending a season on loan with Vitesse Arnhem – the Dutch club that currently has no fewer than five Chelsea players in their first team squad.

The Serbian international was part of the Benfica side that lost 2-1 to Chelsea in last season’s Europa League final, while he won the Portuguese League Cup the previous year.

Elsewhere, the club are set to partly finance their move for Matic with the funds they are due to receive from Wolfsburg for Kevin De Bruyne, according to the Mirror.

The Bundesliga side are set to complete ta £17m move for the Belgium international in the next few days.

De Bruyne has made just two starts for the Blues, having spent last season on loan with Werder Bremen.

Luiz rejected Barcelona offer

Chelsea defender David Luiz has revealed that he turned down a move to Barcelona during the recently closed transfer window, according to the Express.

The Brazil international was linked with a move to the Nou Camp all summer, and he himself has confirmed that their interest was backed up by an official approach which he in turn rejected.

Another Blues player interesting the La Liga champions is goalkeeper Thibaut Courtios, according to Talksport.

The Belgium goalkeeper, who is currently on loan for a third season with Atletico Madrid, has emerged as a target for the Catalan club, who are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper for next season.

Current number one Victor Valdes is set leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Talksport have also reported that Nathan Ake rejected the opportunity to go out on loan for this season.

The highly-regarded Dutch defender was expected to return to his homeland, where seven Chelsea players currently reside.

No less than six of the Blues squad have moved to Vitesse Arnhem, though it was PSV Eindhoven who were reportedly interested in Ake.

Finally, the Metro understands that Nathaniel Chalobah is wanted by Championship sides Wigan Athletic and Watford.

The latter took the eighteen year old for the entirety of last season, and he played thirty-eight games, helping the Hornets reach the play-offs, where they eventually lost in the final to Crystal Palace.

Chelsea loan Lukaku to Everton

Chelsea did not make any additions to their squad on transfer deadline day, though they did sent a number of their players out on loan.

The most notable of those to secure a temporary move away from Stamford Bridge was striker Romelu Lukaku, who has moved to Everton for the remainder of the season.

The Belgium international’s last action in a Chelsea shirt was to miss the decisive penalty in last Friday’s Super Cup final defeat to Bayern Munich, while he also appeared in two of the Blues three Premier League games so far this season.

Mexico U23 midfielder Ulises Davila has moved to Cordoba, while Sam Hutchinson joins fellow Blues Gael Kakuta, Patrick van Aanholt, Cristian Cuevas and recent signing Christian Atsu at Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem.

The club managed to keep hold of Fernando Torres, Juan Mata and Demba Ba, all of whom had been linked with other clubs throughout the summer.

Meanwhile, Victor Moses has told the Liverpool Echo that a chat with Daniel Sturridge helped persuade him to make the switch to Anfield.

The pair spent six months together at Stamford Bridge before England international Sturridge moved in the January transfer window.

Chelsea sign Atsu from Porto

Chelsea have completed the signing of winger Christian Atsu from Porto, according to Sky Sports.

The Ghana international has put pen to paper on a five year contract after the two clubs agreed a fee of around £3.5m, though he will spend the rest of this season on loan with Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem.

He made twenty-eight appearances for the Jose Mourinho’s former side last year, having spent the previous campaign on loan with Rio Ave, where he won the clubs Player of the Season award.

Atsu is the eighth new arrival at Stamford Bridge this summer, and is also the fourth to be loaned to Vitesse, with Gael Kakuta, Patrick van Aanholt and Lucas Piazon also having made the switch.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are set to sign Victor Moses on a season-long loan deal, the Mail Online understands.

The Nigeria international, who has not yet made an appearance under Jose Mourinho, is set to fall further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Brazil international Willian.

Elsewhere, Demba Ba is reportedly on Arsene Wenger’s radar going into transfer deadline day, according to the Mirror.

Lie Moses, the Senegal forward is set to see his chances limited after Samuel Eto’o was re-united with Jose Mourinho last week.

Blues considering £5m Eto’o swoop

Chelsea may be able to sign Anzhi Makhachkala’s Samuel Eto’o for as little as £5m, the Guardian understands.

Jose Mourinho has been searching for a new striker all summer, but looks increasingly unlikely to secure a deal for Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney after seeing both of their bids for the England international knocked back.

Eto’o has recently spoken of his admiration for his former employer, who he played under at Inter Milan during their treble winning campaign of 2009/10.

Meanwhile, West Ham United are keen to secure a deal for Demba Ba, according to the Daily Star.

Ba began his Premier League career with the Hammers, for whom he scored seven goals in just twelve appearances before moving to Newcastle United in June 2011.

If the club are able to add a new striker before the transfer window closes on September 2nd, they could well allow the Senegal international to move on, though having laid out £22m on Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing, West Ham are likely to pursue a loan deal.

Finally, teenage duo Lucas Piazon and Wallace have both secured season-long loan moves to Vitesse Arnhem and Inter Milan respectively.

Wallace is yet to make his debut for Chelsea, while Piazon, who will link up with fellow Blues Gael Kakuta, Patrick van Aanholt and Cristian Cuevas at the Dutch club, made his one and only league appearance so far as a cameo in the 8-0 victory over Aston Villa last December.

Chelsea lining up third Rooney bid

Chelsea are preparing a third bid for Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, the Guardian understands.

Jose Mourinho remains keen on agreeing a deal for the 27 year old despite David Moyes insistence that the 27 year old is not for sale.

The Blues opening two offers – the latest of which thought to be around £25m – were rejected out of hand by the Premier League champions, meaning the former Everton man may now have to hand in a transfer record to force through a move.

The striker does look to be heading towards the Old Trafford exit door, after reportedly being asked to train away from the first team as the saga continues.

Meanwhile, Rooney has been named in Roy Hodgson’s squad for next week’s friendly against Scotland, along with Chelsea trio Ashley Cole, Gary Cahill and Frank Lampard.

Elsewhere, Nathan Ake has signed a new five year contract with the club after breaking into the first team last season, while Lucas Piazon is close to securing a loan move to Vitesse Arnhem.

Dutch centre-back Ake made six appearances last year, and is delighted to have signed the new deal, while Piazon is set to join fellow Chelsea youngers Gael Kakuta, Patrick van Aanholt and Cristian Cuevas at the Eredevise club.
