Cole and Torres to miss Cardiff clash

Chelsea will be without Ashley Cole and Fernando Torres for tomorrow afternoon’s visit of Cardiff City.

Cole hasn’t been able to shake of the rib injury that kept him out of England’s two recent World Cup qualifiers , while Torres remains absent from training after straining knee ligaments.

Germany forward Andre Schurrle may be handed a start after impressing for Germany in their wins against the Republic of Ireland and Sweden.

Goalkeeper Petr Cech will make his 300th Premier League appearance for the club, a feat previously achieved by John Terry and Frank Lampard.

The Blues will return to the top of the division if they better the results of Liverpool and Arsenal, while defeat could see them slip as far down as seventh place depending on other results.

This is the first league meeting between the sides in almost twenty years, though the Blues ran out 4-1 winners when they faced each other in a FA Cup match back in 2010.

Cardiff currently sit in fourteenth place having lost two of their last three games.

Their preparation for the game has been overshadowed by the departure of the clubs Head of Recruitment Ian Moody earlier in the week.

Chelsea may rotate for the visit of Villa

Jose Mourinho could rotate his squad for this evenings match with Aston Villa with Monday’s match with Manchester United in mind.

Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku, Demba Ba and Andre Schurrle are all pushing for starts, though David Luiz still remains side-lined with a hamstring injury.

In the corresponding fixture last season, the Blues ran out 8-0 winners, though with Villa on a high after Saturday’s win at Arsenal, the game is likely to be much less one sided this time around.

Elsewhere, the Blues are lining up a third bid for Wayne Rooney, according to the Express.

The Chelsea manager has not given up on landing his top transfer target before the window closes on September 2nd, though he has insisted that he has alternative options should he fail in his pursuit of the England international.

Meanwhile, the Express have also reported that Demba Ba is being lined up by Roma as a replacement for Erik Lamela, who is locked in talks with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 28 year old, who only moved to Stamford Bridge back in January, was an unused substitute in Sunday’s victory over Premier League newcomers Hull City and is the most likely player to make way once the club sign a new forward.

Mourinho marks return with victory

Jose Mourinho enjoyed a winning return to Stamford Bridge as his Chelsea side beat newly-promoted Hull City 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Oscar and Frank Lampard wrapped up the victory for the Blues, who extend their unbeaten home league run under Mourinho to sixty-one games.

The hosts were awarded a penalty after just six minutes, though Hull keeper Allan McGregor saved Lampard’s effort.

They eventually took the lead seven minutes later through Oscar before Lampard fired in a long range free kick half way through the first half.

New signings Marco van Ginkel and Andre Schurrle both made their bows as second half substitutes, with the latter replacing fellow debutant Kevin De Bruyne.

The club will now turn their attention to Wednesday’s match against Aston Villa, who currently sit a place above the Blues by virtue of goals scored following their 3-1 win at Arsenal.

Meanwhile, ESPN understand that Chelsea are lining up a third and final bid of around £40m for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

The England international made two assists after coming on as a second half substitute against Swansea City on Saturday, and cut a lonely figure as the rest of his teammates celebrated.

Mata faces late fitness test ahead of Hulll game

Jose Mourinho has just one injury concern for Sunday’s Premier League opener against Hull City on Sunday.

Juan Mata will face a late fitness test ahead of the game after suffering a slight knock, with the rest of the first team squad fit and vying for a starting berth.

Romelu Lukaku will be hoping to get the nod having returned from a season long loan with West Bromwich Albion, while Kevin De Bruyne and Michael Essien have also return after spending a year away from the club.

New signings Andre Schurlle and Marco Van Ginkel may feature at some stage, though Mark Schwarzer is expected to provide nothing more than back up to first choice goalkeeper Petr Cech.

The omens are good for the returning Blues boss, with the club unbeaten in the last sixteen opening day fixtures, and also unbeaten in their four fixtures against the Tigers in the Premier League.

However, in terms of statistics there is none more impressive than Jose Mournho’s home record in England’s top flight.

During his first spell with the club, the Portuguese manager was undefeated at Stamford Bridge and will be confident of maintaining that record as the Blues take on one of the favourites for relegation.

Rooney to hand in transfer request?

Wayne Rooney is preparing to hand in a transfer request this week in a bid to force through a move to Chelsea, according to the Daily Mail.

The England international has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford all summer, though United’s manager David Moyes repeatedly stating that the forward is not for sale.

The Premier League champions rejected the Blues opening bid for the 27 year old, who is now reportedly ready to go public with his desire to leave, in order to accelerate a switch to Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, the Mail Online have also reported that Barcelona are readying a fresh bid for David Luiz.

The Catalan club were rebuffed in their initial attempts to sign the Brazil international, who has also been linked with a move to European Champions Bayern Munich.

Though they are not actively trying to sell the 26 year old, it is thought that the club may accept an offer of around £45m, though Barca are hoping to negotiate a deal worth closer £35m.

Finally, goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Andre Schurrle secured a 2-0 win for the Blues over AC Milan in the Guinness International Champions Cup semi-final in New Jersey.

They will now face Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid in the final in Miami.

Mourinho happy with first team squad

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has endorsed the Chelsea’s three new signings ahead of the clubs preseason tour of Asia, according to Sky Sports.

Andre Schurrle, Marco Van Ginkel and Mark Schwarzer will join up with their new teammates for the trip on Thursday, and the returning manager is pleased with the business the Blues has done.

The 50 year old has also been waxing lyrical about Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne and Tomas Kalas, all of whom are expected to be bedded into the first team next season.

The trio spent last season on loan with West Bromwich Albion, Werder Bremen and Vitesse Arnhem, but are now considered ready for action.

Meanwhile, the club have been boosted in their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruma, after the Portugal under 20 star reportedly begged for a move to Stamford Bridge, the Metro understands.

Jose Mourinho is said to be keen on the 18 year old, who recently impressed at the Under 20s World Cup in Turkey, though a deal has dragged on.

The Blues original offer of £12million was rejected by Sporting, who are keen to keep hold of Bruma for at least another twelve months.

Manchester City and Real Madrid are also reportedly interested, but have not made a move as yet, as they pursue other targets.

Anzhi to move for Ba?

Chelsea striker Demba Ba has emerged as a target for Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala, the Mirror understands.

The Senegalese forward has only been at Stamford Bridge for six months, though the arrival of Andre Schurrle, as well as the continued pursuit of Edinson Cavani has indicated that he is not in Jose Mourinho’s plans.

Ba has reportedly turned down the chance of returning to former club West Ham United, while West Bromwich Albion, who yesterday signed former Blue Nicolas Anelka, was another potential destination for the 28 year old.

Anzhi are likely to table a lucrative offer for the player, who scored six goals in twenty-two appearances for Chelsea last season after signing from Newcastle United in January.

Meanwhile, Galatasaray are resuming talks with the Blues over a £16million move for midfielder John Obi Mikel, according to the Mail Online.

The 26 year old has made over 250 appearances since signing for the club seven years ago, and will again link up with Chelsea legend Didier Drogba should the move go through.

Elsewhere, the Metro have reported that Zenit St Petersburg striker Hulk has received offers from both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, as he targets a move to the Premier League.

Chelsea complete Schurrle deal

Chelsea have completed the signing of Germany international Andre Schurrle from Bayern Leverkusen for £18 million.

The 22 year old, who has been on the clubs radar for some time, becomes first signing of Jose Mourinho’s second spell as Blues manager.

Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has not been included as part of the deal, despite reports that he could be moving in the opposite direction.

Mourinho stated on Monday that he was keen to give opportunities to those Chelsea players who excelled on loan last season, namely De Bruyne and forward Romelu Lukaku.

Schurrle can play anywhere on the forward line, but has been used prominently on the left wing,

Meanwhile, Monaco are reportedly planning to scupper Chelsea’s approaches for Zenit St Petersburg forward Hulk by launching a bid of their own.

The Brazilian international has been linked with a move away from the Petrovsky Stadium after a difficult first season in Russia; scoring just seven goals in eighteen league games.

Monaco’s spending appears to have no limit, with the newly promoted outfit having already signed Radamel Falcao, James Roddriguez and Joao Moutinho, all of whom are former teammates of Hulk.

The quartet played together at Porto during the 2010/11 campaign.

West Ham eyeing Ba return

The Mirror understands that West Ham United are preparing a loan bid for Chelsea striker Demba Ba.

The Senegal international scored just two goals in fourteen league appearances for the Blues since signing from Newcastle United for £7milliom in January.

Since returning as Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho has been linked with a number of high profile strikers, putting Ba’s future at the club in doubt.

Edinson Cavani of Napoli, Bayer Leverkusen’s Andre Schurrle and Stevan Jovetic of Fiorentina have all strongly been linked with the club, who are also reportedly considering a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski.

Ba had a short spell with the Hammers when he first came to England, but was unable to stop them being relegated to the Championship though seven goals in twelve appearances secured him a move to Newcastle.

Sam Allardyce is keen to take Ba to partner Andy Carroll, who is expected to secure a permanent move to Upton Park this summer.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail have reported that the former Blackburn Rovers boss is also considering a move for Romelu Lukaku, following his successful season on loan with West Bromwich Albion.

They say that the Belgian international is their number one target, and will pounce if Chelsea are willing to send him out on loan again.

Blues back in for Hulk

Chelsea have once again been linked with a move for Zenti St Petersburg forward Hulk.

The Mirror report that the Blues have turned to Brazilian after missing out on number one target Radamel Falcao, who last week signed for French Ligue 1 side Monaco.

The club were close to agreeing a deal for the player last summer but could not agree a deal with the 26 year olds then club Porto.

Hulk – real name Givanildo Vieira de Souza –has struggled since signing making the reported £50 million move to Russia a year ago, and it is thought that Zenit are ready to cut their losses.

The Blues are keen to recruit another striker, with Fernando Torres linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge and Romelu Lukaku potentially set for another loan spell to continue his development.

Edinson Cavani is still thought to be very much on the clubs radar, though Napoli are keen to keep hold of their prize asset.

Meanwhile, Germany international Andre Schurrle’s proposed move from Bayer Leverkusen has ‘not yet been agreed’ according to Rudi Voller.

However, the Bundesliga side’s general manager told Deutsche Presseagentur that they remain hopeful that a deal can be done.
