It has been one of the most talked-about transfer sagas of the summer, yet it actually appears as though Chelsea haven’t even made a bid for Brazilian striker Hulk. Speculation has been mounting over recent months that the Porto striker is set to make a switch to Stamford Bridge, but it is understood that a deal is a long, long way from being struck and the Blues may even miss out on their man.
It is thought that the main stumbling block is Porto’s asking price. While the Portuguese giants are more than in their rights to ask for a huge sum, with Hulk having a €100m buyout clause, Chelsea are seemingly reluctant to meet the €40million that the club are realistically seeking.
Porto have officially confirmed that no club has made a bit for Hulk, with president Pinto da Costa telling Antena 1, “According to the newspapers, Hulk would be long gone now, but what I can guarantee today is that Porto have not yet received any offers for him.”
Many Blues fans are concerned about the lack of progress on this deal, with other parties now supposedly showing an interest in Hulk. One of them is understood to be French outfit Paris Saint-Germain and considering their vast spending power, Chelsea may even be blown out of the water should they make a bid.
Fortunately for Roberto Di Matteo, it at least appears as though Hulk is still interested in a move to Stamford Bridge. It was only several days ago that the Brazilian powerhouse said, “Chelsea are the current European champions and would please any player and I’m no exception. I’d be happy if the transfer happened.”
Of course, there is also the small matter of Roberto Di Matteo. While it is widely thought that he would be open for Hulk to move to the Blues, the speculation actually began before his official appointment. Bearing that in mind, his preference may be to simply explore other options.
