Mateo Kovacic not contemplating about his future beyond Chelsea

Croatia international Mateo Kovacic has indicated that he is not contemplating about his club future beyond the current campaign. The midfielder made the season-long loan to Chelsea from Real Madrid during the previous transfer window and he has since been a regular feature under Maurizio Sarri with 15 appearances across all competitions.

Speaking in press conference, Kovacic highlighted that he is pleased to have made the move to Stamford Bridge during the summer and he is enjoying the proceedings under the tutelage of Maurizio Sarri. He added that he is not thinking what will happen beyond the current campaign where he may have to return to the Bernabeu.

He said: “I wanted to be happy and at Chelsea I am. I just wanted to be happy and play matches, feel a responsibility within the team and I’ve found that at Chelsea. This is not the time to talk about anything other than playing and enjoying. I don’t want to think about what will happen and do want to be happy doing what I like, which is to play football every week.”

Kovacic made the switch to the west London giants during the dying stages of the summer transfer window after Sarri expressed the need for more options in the centre of the park. Kovacic has since started half of the matches where he has been picked but his position remains far from assured with Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek making a strong case for the third midfield spot.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have remained unbeaten since the opening day of the Premier League campaign and their undefeated run sees them just four points behind league leaders Manchester City after 12 games into the season. They have likewise excelled in the Europa League with a 100 per cent record whilst also progressing into the League Cup quarterfinal where they are scheduled to face Bournemouth next month.
