With Chelsea seemingly starting another big-spending era, there have been reports that Ashley Cole has been looking for a bumper contract to end his career on. However, the England left back has now taken to Twitter to deny the reports, claiming that he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge for the remainder of his career.
Newspaper speculation has linked the former Arsenal ace with a move away from the club, with some sources claiming that he is holding out for an offer of £200k per week. It’s understood that wealthy French outfit Paris Saint-Germain would be able to put together a hugely lucrative package for the 31-year-old, prompting suggestions that he could depart Stamford Bridge to link up there.
However, Cole has moved to quickly deny such reports. Writing on his Twitter page the player said, “Contract talks have not stalled just started, and 200k are you for real, I’d never ask for that… until Chelsea don’t want me I’m #cfc4life. Like I said before don’t listen or always believe what media say they aint got a clue.”
Despite the reassurance from the player, some supporters will still be doubtful of his future at the club. Cole is set to enter the final year of his contract at Chelsea and it certainly appears bizarre that he has not agreed a new package. Moreover, with several other high-profile players such as Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou departing following the expiry of their contracts in recent months, it appears as though the club have no issues in letting their big stars leave on free transfers.
Of course, as the situation continues to stay like it is, the speculation will continue to grow. Moreover, with PSG building such a high-profile squad following the purchases of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva, it wouldn’t be a surprise for the French outfit to even launch a cheeky bid for the defender.
