Chelsea win to take control of Group E

Chelsea have gone top of Group E after beating Schalke 3-0 at the Veltins Arena yesterday evening.

The Blues took just five minutes to make the breakthrough, when Fernando Torres turned in a Bransilav Ivanovic corner that had been flicked on by Frank Lampard.

The Spain international, who was making his 100th start for the club, then doubled the visitors advantage with a simple finish following good build up play by Oscar and Eden Hazard.

Hazard himself then put the result beyond any doubt with three minutes to play, securing the Blues second win of their European campaign so far.

Jose Mourinho’s men will now turn their attention to Sunday afternoons clash with Manchester City where, should Arsenal slip up against Crystal Palace the day before, they could reclaim top spot in the division.

Elsewhere, the club are considering a move for Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa, according to the Mirror.

The 25 year old, who scored his eleventh and twelfth goals in his twelfth club appearance of the season yesterday – a 3-0 win over Austria Vienna, has also been linked with a move to Liverpool though Chelsea appear to be leading the race for his signature, though they will need to stup up around £35m.
