Samuel Eto’o opened the scoring with his twenty-eighth Champions League goal on 31 minutes after capitalising on goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand’s error before doubling his and the Blues tally on the evening with a second nine minutes into the second half.
Substitute Demba Ba opened his account for the season with a third seven minutes from time to wrap up the victory for Jose Mourinho’s men, who can ensure qualification for the last sixteen with a win in Basel on in their next European tie, which takes place on November 26th.
Meanwhile, the Blues boss has revealed that Eden Hazard was left out of the match day squad as he missed training on Monday.
Mourinho went on to say that the Belgium international is in contention for Saturday’s visit of West Bromwich Albion, where the club will be hoping to close the gap on leaders Arsenal who face Manchester United on Sunday.
