WILKINS: KEEP GUUS

Ray Wilkins, the former England international, believes that Guus Hiddink should not be let go by Chelsea and they should seriously consider giving him the permanent charge as there is no other manager available at the moment who has done as much of English Football as he has.

Hiddink was brought to Chelsea only as a temporary arrangement mid way through this season, but, what he has done so far, it has been hailed by all. Hiddink has seen Chelsea losing only once under his watch till now which is remarkable considering how many times the Blues had been getting beaten before the appointment of the Dutchman.

However, despite the impressive returns of Hiddink, there have been no hints dropped yet by Chelsea that they want to retain the manager for the future too and neither has the man himself has shown any interest.

So, it seems likely that a new man would be in charge of Chelsea come the next summer, but, in Wilkins’ eyes, keeping Hiddink in the job would be far, far better than bringing in some other person who hasn’t done the manager’s job at any club in English Football before.

Wilkins, who was speaking at the launch of the Cheltenham Racing Festival, said that “management is a slightly difficult job in England especially for the newcomers as you’ve got to be able to speak and understand the language and also, you must be prepared to up your pace of working as the intensity of the game would be higher than anywhere else.” (If you want to find out more about Cheltenham, and Ray Wilkins’ top tips, then you can find out more here.

Hiddink, on the other hand, has been here before and done it and that makes him the most eligible candidate, but, it also depends on whether he himself is up for taking the job or not.

Chelsea is 10th in the Premiership right now, but, there is every possibility they would end up at a higher position in the standings.
