Chelsea have slipped to third position in the Premier League after losing 3-2 to Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Andre Schurrle put Jose Mourinho’s men in front on nine minutes before Peter Crouch drew the hosts level three minute before the break.
The host’s then took the lead five minutes into the second half through Stephen Ireland before Schurrle got his and the Blues’ second just five minutes later.
Then, in the final minute of the game, Oussama Assaidi fired in an angled shot to secure victory for Mark Hughes’ men, and consign Chelsea to their third league defeat of the season.
The club will now turn their attention to Wednesday evening’s match with Steaua Bucharest if the final round of Champions League group games, where victory will guarantee first place ahead of either Schalke or Basel who meet in Gelsenkirchen.
Meanwhile, the club are set to swoop for Monaco’s Radamel Falcao, according to the Daily Star.
The Colombia striker only moved to the Ligue 1 sidde in the summer and has scored nine times in fourteen games though Mourinho has been linked with a £60m bid as his current selection of strikers continue to misfire.
Chelsea are considering a £60m bid for Monaco striker Radamel Falcao, the Mirror understands.
The Blues boss has been a long-time admirer of the 27 year old, and will cast an eye on him when Colombia take on Belgium in an international friendly this weekend.
Falcao secured a big money move to the Ligue 1 side in the summer after hitting 52 goals in just 67 La Liga games with Atletico Madrid.
This season, his nine goals in thirteen appearances has helped fire Claudio Ranieiri’s side to third place in the division as they look to secure Champions League football in their first season back in France’s top flight.
Chelsea’s forwards have managed just four goals between them in the Premier League so far this season, with Samuel Eto’o having scored twice, and Andre Schurrle and Fernando Torres chipping in with one each.
Midfielders Oscar and Eden Hazard are currently their top league goal scorers with four a piece.
Meanwhile, Frank Lampard is set to captain England in Friday’s match with Chile, according to the Express.
Steven Gerrard is set to miss out after sustaining a hip injury, so the all-time Blues top scorer will step in on the evening when he will also be recognise as their latest centurion.
Netherlands coach Louis Van Gaal has urged Wesley Sneijder to accept Jose Mourinho’s offer and join Chelsea, the Express understands.
The midfielder has been long linked with a move to the Premier League, and was subject to a deadline day bid by champions Manchester United which was rejected by his current club Galatasaray.
However, Van Gaal is sure that the Blues remain interested in signing the 29 year old, who enjoyed his most successful spell under Mourinho at Inter Milan.
Sneijder scored his 26th international goal in the Netherlands’ 2-0 win in Turkey on Tuesday evening, and will be keen to feature at what would be his third successive World Cup finals next summer.
Meanwhile, the Express have also reported that the Blues are considering bids for promising French duo Gianelli Imbula and Eliaquim Mangala.
Midfielder Imbula, 21, has broken into the Marseille first team this season and got his first goal for the club in the 2-1 win over St Etienne last month.
Managala, a centre-back who has made over sixty appearances in all competitions for Porto, made his full international debut in a friendly against Uruguay during the summer, and has also been linked with Manchester United, Manchester City and Monaco.
Samuel Eto’o has ruled out a move to Chelsea by pledging his future to Anzhi Makhachkala, the Metro understands.
The Cameroon international linked with the switch to Stamford Bridge, where he would have been reunited with former boss Jose Mourinho, who he worked with to great success at Inter Milan during the 2009/10 season.
The Blues boss had reportedly lined up Eto’o as an alternative option to Wayne Rooney, who looks set to stay at Manchester United.
Nevertheless, the club are expected to line up a final, £40m move for the England international which, should that fail, would see Mourinho revive his interest in Borussia Dortmund forward Robert Lewandowski, according to the Mirror.
The Polish international is in the final year of his contract at the Westfalenstadion, and is expected to move to Bayern Munich on a free transfer next summer though £40m is likely to be enough to persuade last season’s Bundesliga and Champions League runners up sell.
Meanwhile, Colombian striker Radamel Falcao, who has also been linked with Chelsea, has denied that he is about to quit Monaco according to the Express.
The 27 year old only moved to the Ligue 1 side three months ago, but was rumoured to be looking for a way out of his contract after proposals in Francois Hollande’s government to make footballers pay the top rate of tax.
Aston Villa will consider moving for Chelsea’s Demba Ba if they sell want-away striker Christian Benteke, according to the Daily Star.
Benteke handed in a transfer request earlier this week, and will be allowed to leave should a club meet Villa’s asking price of £25million.
Ba only moved to Stamford Bridge six months ago, but it is thought that the Senegal striker is not part of Jose Mourinho’s plans for the forthcoming season.
Meanwhile the Express have claimed that the Blues will move for Wayne Rooney, if they sell either Ba or Fernando Torres.
New Manchester United manager David Moyes has said that the England international is not for sale, though both Chelsea and Arsenal are said to be interested following reports that the striker is unsettled.
Elsewhere, the Independent understands that Daniele De Rossi’s move from Roma to Chelsea is ‘all-but-agreed’.
The Italian midfielder was targeted by Jose Mourinho when both he was charge of both Inter Milan and Real Madrid, though it looks as if he may finally get his man for a fee of £11million.
Finally, the Mail Online have reported that Monaco have joined Turkish duo Galatasaray and Trabzonspor in the race to sign Blues midfielder John Obi Mikel.
