Villa interested in signing Ba

Aston Villa will consider moving for Chelsea’s Demba Ba if they sell want-away striker Christian Benteke, according to the Daily Star.

Benteke handed in a transfer request earlier this week, and will be allowed to leave should a club meet Villa’s asking price of £25million.

Ba only moved to Stamford Bridge six months ago, but it is thought that the Senegal striker is not part of Jose Mourinho’s plans for the forthcoming season.

Meanwhile the Express have claimed that the Blues will move for Wayne Rooney, if they sell either Ba or Fernando Torres.

New Manchester United manager David Moyes has said that the England international is not for sale, though both Chelsea and Arsenal are said to be interested following reports that the striker is unsettled.

Elsewhere, the Independent understands that Daniele De Rossi’s move from Roma to Chelsea is ‘all-but-agreed’.

The Italian midfielder was targeted by Jose Mourinho when both he was charge of both Inter Milan and Real Madrid, though it looks as if he may finally get his man for a fee of £11million.

Finally, the Mail Online have reported that Monaco have joined Turkish duo Galatasaray and Trabzonspor in the race to sign Blues midfielder John Obi Mikel.

Anzhi to move for Ba?

Chelsea striker Demba Ba has emerged as a target for Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala, the Mirror understands.

The Senegalese forward has only been at Stamford Bridge for six months, though the arrival of Andre Schurrle, as well as the continued pursuit of Edinson Cavani has indicated that he is not in Jose Mourinho’s plans.

Ba has reportedly turned down the chance of returning to former club West Ham United, while West Bromwich Albion, who yesterday signed former Blue Nicolas Anelka, was another potential destination for the 28 year old.

Anzhi are likely to table a lucrative offer for the player, who scored six goals in twenty-two appearances for Chelsea last season after signing from Newcastle United in January.

Meanwhile, Galatasaray are resuming talks with the Blues over a £16million move for midfielder John Obi Mikel, according to the Mail Online.

The 26 year old has made over 250 appearances since signing for the club seven years ago, and will again link up with Chelsea legend Didier Drogba should the move go through.

Elsewhere, the Metro have reported that Zenit St Petersburg striker Hulk has received offers from both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, as he targets a move to the Premier League.

De Bruyne set to remain at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea forward Kevin De Bruyne looks likely to remain with the club next season after being given assurances from Jose Mourinho, Sky Sports understands.

The 21 year old joined the Blues from Genk eighteen months ago, before being immediately sent back to the Belgian Pro League side for the remainder of the 2011/12 campaign, while he spent the entirety of last season on loan with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen where he scored ten goals in thirty three league appearances.

He has since been linked with a move back to Germany, with Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund reportedly interested, though he know seems set to compete for a first team place at Stamford Bridge.

De Bruyne scored his third international goal in Belgium’s 2-1 world Cup Qualifier win over Serbia earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Fernando Torres scored four and missed a penalty in Spain’s 10-0 win over Tahiti in the Confederation’s Cup yesterday evening.

Juan Mata also got on the score sheet, while Cesar Azpilicueta won his first competitive international cap, playing the full ninety minutes at right-back.

In the evenings other match, Blues midfielder John Obi Mikel, who is on the verge of completing his move to Galatasaray scored Nigeria’s goal in their 2-1 defeat to Uruguay.

Mikel set for Galatasaray switch

Galatasaray are set to finalise a deal for Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel, the Daily Mail understands.

The Nigerian international, who is currently competing in the Confederations Cup in Brail, asked for the advice of former teammate Didier Drogba, who joined the Turkish club in January.

Mikel was signed for the Blues by Jose Mourinho back in 2006, after a protracted transfer that almost saw him move to Manchester United, to the points where he was even pictured in their shirt at a press conference.

FIFA ordered that the player move back to Lyn Oslo while the matter with resolved, though Chelsea intervened to settle directly with United, paying them £12million, with a further £4million going to Lyn.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Mikel won the Premier League, four FA Cups, the League Cup, the Europa League and the Champions League, with arguably his best performance coming in the final of the latter.

Meanwhile, David Luiz has confirmed that he broke his nose in Brazil’s 2-0 victory over Mexico in the Confederations Cup yesterday.

The incident, which saw the Blues man grounded with blood seeping from his nose, came when he clashed with teammate Thiago Silva during the first half.

Luiz played the entire match, with the extent of his injury becoming clear after the game.

Benitez expecting Mourinho return

Rafael Benitez yesterday dropped a huge hint that Jose Mourinho is set to retake the reins at Stamford Bridge.

After telling reporters that “another manager” will be at Stamford Bridge, the Spaniard said:

“I think everybody knows who will be here. I have to concentrate on my job. It’s not my concern”.

Chelsea’s interim manager then reiterated that he will not be at the club beyond the next four games, beginning with this evening’s crucial visit of Tottenham Hotspur.

Three points for the Blues will as good as see them qualify for the Champions League due to their superior goal difference.

However, should Tottenham take all three points, they will move level on points with Chelsea, ahead of the last two games of the season.

Eden Hazard is set to return to the starting line-up after recovering from the calf injury that kept him out of the win over Manchester United.

John Obi-Mikel and Ryan Bertrand remain side-lined, though Oriol Romeu is available following a long term knee problem.

Finally, the Daily Mail have reported that a deal to bring Bayer Leverkusen striker Andre Schurrle to Stamford Bridge is near completion, with the German sides general manager Wolfgang Holzhauser claiming that a pre-contract agreement has ‘probably’ been signed.

Benitez quiet on Mourinho link

Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez has declined to comment in the possibility of former Blues boss Jose Mourinho replacing him in the dugout at Stamford Bridge.

Rumours of the Special One’s return intensified following comments he himself made after Real Madrid’s 4-3 aggregate defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semi-final on Tuesday.

However, Benitez dismissed questions regarding the 50 year olds potential reappointment by simply telling reporters: “It’s not my business”.

Meanwhile, the club are preparing for tonight’s Europa League semi-final second leg against FC Base, where they have a 2-1 lead from last week’s initial encounter in Switzerland.

The hosts go in to the game without the suspended Ashley Cole, so Ryan Bertrand is set to deputise, though he, along with David Luiz, Ramires and John Obi Mikel are only a booking away from missing the final, should Chelsea get there. Striker Demba Ba is ineligible, so Fernando Torres is set to lead the line.

Elsewhere, the Blues have been linked with highly rated Schalke youngster Kyriakos Papadopoulos.

The 21 year old centre back, who has already been capped 16 times for Greece, is also a target for Manchester City and Liverpool and reportedly has a released clause of £17 million in his contract.
