MARTINEZ LOVING DI SANTO

The Wigan athletic manager Roberto Martinez has said that the Argentine striker Franco di Santo should consider signing a new deal with the club before thinking about moving to the club once more. The 23-year-old striker was recently called up for the Argentina national team for the first time in his career. He is likely to play for the South American team in the friendly match against Saudi Arabia. He has come along with since his struggles with Chelsea, where he did not get a lot of game time before eventually securing a move to Wigan a permanent basis.

Roberto Martinez has said that it is time for the striker to keep his foot firmly on the ground and concentrate only of playing for Wigan. He should not be thinking about moving to a new bigger club because he will once again find himself in the same doldrums. The 23-year-old has only six months left on his current contract. He moved to Wigan from Blackburn for £ 4 million back in 2010. Negotiations over the possibility of a new deal are yet to start, and there is a feeling at the club that he will move to pastures new at the end of the season.

“We haven’t even looked into it yet in detail but both parties know what to do next. I’m pretty confident. Franco needs to carry on fulfilling his potential with Wigan. We don’t want this call-up to break his development and all of a sudden put things into people’s heads. His next step is to be an important player for Argentina. We’re all looking forward to seeing him achieve that transformation while he is at Wigan,” said Martinez. Even though he has scored only three goals in the 10 appearances this season, his contribution elsewhere has been immense.
