Jose Mourinho has finally put to an end any doubts that he will become the next Chelsea manager by confirming on Spanish television that he will return to Stamford Bridge by the end of the week.
The news is sure to delight Blues fans, a number of which failed to accept interim manager Rafael Benitez, who last week left the club to become manager of Italian side Napoli.
Mourinho won back to back league titles, as well as two league cups and the FA Cup during his first spell at the club, which ran from 2004 to 2007.
Meanwhile, the Premier League has issued an apology to Chelsea after their official website which seemed to confirm the Special One’s return was published by mistake.
They indicated that the piece, that has since been removed, was written with the possibility of a managerial change in mind, and wasn’t meant to be uploaded.
Elsewhere, the club are prepared to part company with defensive duo David Luiz and Branislav Ivanovic, according to the Daily Star.
Barcelona are reportedly considering a £40 million bid for the pair which, if accepted, would free up funds for Chelsea’s new manager to spend on rebuilding the squad.
