Chelsea are to hold talks with Napoli over the potential transfer of Edinson Cavani in the next 24 hours, the Mirror understands.
The Uruguayan has become the clubs number one target after Radamel Falcao’s transfer to Monaco, and Borussia Dortmund’s refusal to part company with Robert Lewandowski.
The 26 year old, who is currently on international duty at the Confederations Cup in Brazil, has also been linked with moves to Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Meanwhile, Fernando Torres has once again reiterated his desire to remain at Stamford Bridge, amid rumours that he could be used as a makeweight in a deal for Cavani.
The Spanish international, who is also at the Confederations Cup, has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge after largely flattering to deceive since signing from Liverpool two and a half years ago.
Elsewhere, the Premier League fixture list for the forthcoming season has been announced.
Jose Mourinho’s first league game since returning as Chelsea manager will be at home to newly promoted Hull City, before travelling to Champions Manchester United the following week.
The Blues will host Swansea City on Boxing Day, with their New Year’s Day fixture away at Southampton, while they the host the Champions on January the 18th.
Their season will end with a trip to Cardiff City, who will be playing in the Premier League for the first time.
