Chelsea defeated in FA Cup semi-final

Chelsea’s hopes of winning a fifth FA Cup in seven years were ended as they were beaten by Manchester City in yesterday’s semi-final at Wembley.

Goals either side of half time from Samir Nasri and Sergio Aguero gave the 2011 winners a comfortable lead, before Demba Ba gave the holders hope with a quarter of the game remaining.

However, the Blues were unable to find an equaliser, and will now turn their attention to Wednesday evening’s local derby at Fulham where they will be able to tighten their grip on a top four place.

Meanwhile Frank Lampard, who was an unused substitute in yesterday afternoon’s defeat, has seemingly moved a step closer to leaving Stamford Bridge, after allegedly postponing his wedding due to the possibility of him signing for LA Galaxy.

The Daily Star have reported that the MLS club are readying an improved contract effort for the 34 year old, as they are keen to bring in a star name following the departure of Lampard’s former England teammate David Beckham last summer.

Elsewhere, the club are expected to open talks with German international Andre Schurrle, regarding a £20 million move.

Representatives of the Bayer Leverkusen striker were said to be at Wembley yesterday, with discussions of personal terms seemingly imminent.
