Blues still monitoring Falcao?

Having invested so much money in their squad over the summer, Chelsea seem to have been linked with practically every big name in Europe over the summer. However, even though the transfer window has now closed, speculation is still lingering that Roberto Di Matteo is contemplating a bid for Atletico Madrid striker Falcao.

The reports probably don’t come as a surprise to a lot of people, after Falcao bagged a hat-trick against Chelsea in the embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Atletico several days ago. It would be fair to say that he absolutely ran the Blues ragged and following on from that performance, most supporters would be absolutely delighted if a deal could be made for the Colombian international.

According to the player’s agent and father, Radamel Falcao, the Blues remain interested in his son and he claims that he would be more than open to join the Blues. Speaking to the press, he said, “There are three teams interested – Manchester City, Chelsea and a Russian team. Falcao has always wanted to play in the Premier League. Ever since he was a boy he has loved Chelsea and has always thought it would be an honour to play for a big Premier League team.”

To add even more spice to the story, several media outlets in Colombia are claiming that the Blues have already agreed a deal with Falcao. However, his father refused to comment on this speculation, although did go as far as saying that it’s “very likely” that the 26-year-old will be plying his trade in the Premier League next term. Even though the player has a minimum release clause of €55m in his contract, recent transfer activity by the Blues would suggest that they are more than comfortable about paying such a figure for a player who is so established in world football.
