United and Chelsea fail to deliver in seasons first Blockbuster

Old Trafford staged its first goalless draw in over four years as Manchester United and Chelsea shared the spoils yesterday evening.

The Blues started without a recognised striker, with Fernando Torres and Romelu Lukaku starting on the bench and Demba Ba, whose goal won the clash between the sides back in May absent from the squad altogether.

The game lacked in clear cut opportunities, with Chelsea’s best chance coming from Oscar, though his snap shot was comfortably dealt with by David De Gea.

The point keeps Chelsea, who now won’t be in league action for almost three weeks, on top of the table.

Meanwhile Jose Mourinho has told Wayne Rooney that he must go public if he still wants to leave Old Trafford, according to the Guardian.

The England international, who played the full ninety minutes of last night’s game, has been the subject of two rejected bids from Chelsea, and now looks likely to remain in Manchester.

Elsewhere, Liverpool have failed in an attempt to take Juan Mata on loan, TalkSport understands.

Mata has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge since the return of Jose Mourinho, and has played just 65 minutes of the Blues three league games so far this season.
