Chelsea turn down Barca bid for Luiz

Chelsea have rejected a bid of around £35m from Barcelona for defender David Luiz, according to the Express.

The Catalan clubs are desperate to tighten up their defence, after their frailties were exposed last season, none more so than in the 7-0 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-finals.

Luiz, who they have linked with all summer, was the La Liga champions’ top target though Jose Mourinho has insisted that the Brazil international is not for sale.

Meanwhile, the Express have also reported that the Blues are lining up a double raid on Anzhi Makhachkala, with the club considering bids for Samuel Eto’o and Willian.

The Russian club are set to change the way they do business, and are looking to trim around £50m a year from their budget.

The Chelsea manager knows Eto’o’s qualities only too well, with the pair winning the treble together at Inter Milan, while winger Willian has stressed that he wants to play in the Premier League, and is likely to jump at the chance should the Blues come calling.

Finally, the club lost 3-1 to Real Madrid in the final of the International Champions Cup final in Miami in the early hours of Thursday morning UK time.
