Chelsea sign another Hazard

It would be fair to say that the transfer saga involving Eden Hazard was one of the most long-winded processes over the past twelve months. With that, many people are surprised that Chelsea’s latest transfer has all but slipped under the radar of the press, with Eden’s younger brother Thorgan set to complete a move to Stamford Bridge according to recent speculation.

The reports have originated through comments from French side Lens, with their sporting director, former Manchester City midfielder Antoine Sibierski, claiming that a deal has been arranged and will be officially announced shortly. He told his club’s official website, “It (the transfer to Chelsea) should be official tomorrow. (When I arrived) there was no intention of letting him go and I met him very quickly after my arrival to show my confidence in him.”

Similarly, Lens manager Jean-Luis Garcia also confirmed that a move was imminent, stating “He is a boy of 19, his elder brother signs for Chelsea and he is urged to do so by the same club, who won the Champions League.”

It cannot be disputed that Thorgan is nowhere near as established as his older brother Eden, yet there are still high hopes for the 19-year-old. He has represented Belgium at practically every youth team level and he has also recently found himself playing regularly for Lens.

Despite breaking into the Lens first team last term, the jury is still out on whether or not Thorgan has what it takes to make a career at the highest level. He has had a tendency to follow his brother around, with the duo both representing Royal Stade Brainois and Tubize earlier in their career. However, even if he is a shadow of the player of Eden, the Blues will certainly have two hugely talented Hazards on their books for the forthcoming campaign.
