Chelsea beat Villa to go top

Chelsea made it back to back wins in the Premier League by beating Aston Villa 2-1 at Stamford Bridge yesterday evening.

An own goal on seven minutes from Antonio Luna put the Blues ahead on seven minutes before Christian Benteke equaliser for the visitors equalised on the stroke of half time.

Branislav Ivanovic’s 73rd minute wrapped up the points for the hosts, who sit happily on top of the league ahead of their clash with champions Manchester United on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, the club will delay a third bid for Wayne Rooney until their visit to Old Trafford is out of the way, according to BBC Sport.

United have so far rejected two bids, the latest in the region of £25m, from the Blues for the 27 year old England international.

The former Everton player appears to be desperate to secure a move away from the club who he joined in 2004, though manager David Moyes has insisted that he is not interested in selling.

Elsewhere, the Daily Star has reported that Chelsea officials are in talks with Samuel Eto’o’s agent regarding a potential deal that could see the 32 year-old reunited with former boss Jose Mourinho.

The pair won the treble together at Inter Milan during the 2009/2010 campain.
