Tambling backs Lampard to take record

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has been backed by Blues legend Bobby Tambling to overtake him as the clubs all-time leading goal scorer.

Tambling scored 202 goals in 370 appearances between 1959 and 1970, two more than Lampard’s current tally.

There are at least twelve games of Chelsea’s season remaining; though that would extend to fifteen should the club reach to finals of the FA Cup and Europa League.

Elsewhere, the Blues have been linked with a move for Vitesse Arnhem striker Wilfred Bony.

The Sun reported that the player’s agent was at Stamford Bridge earlier in the week to propose a transfer for the player, who is also being monitored by West Ham United.

The Ivory Coast international has hit an outstanding 26 goals in 24 league appearances, firing Vitesse to within three points of Ajax in the Netherland’s Eredivise.

Meanwhile, interim manager Rafael Benitez is likely to select his side for tomorrow afternoons league game at Southampton with one eye in their FA Cup quarter final replay with Manchester United, which takes place at Stamford Bridge less than 48 hours later.

Chelsea currently sit in third place in the Premier League, one point ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, and have a game in hand on former Blues boss Andre Villas Boas’ side.
