Chelsea stay fourth following draw at Spurs

Chelsea have kept hold of their top four place after salvaging a point against rivals Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane Saturday lunchtime.

John Terry’s 65th minute header denied former Blues boss Andre Villas Boas victory against former mentor Jose Mourinho, after Gylfi Sigurdsson gave the hosts a first half lead.

Ferndando Torres was dismissed for a second bookable offence ten minutes from time, and the Spain striker may face further sanctions after replays showed him gouging and scratching Jan Vertonghen in an off the ball incident.

As well as the one match ban he will receive for the initial dismissal, the 29 year old could miss another three matches if found guilty of violent conduct.

That would see him miss league games against Norwich City, Cardiff City and Manchester City and the Capital One Cup fourth round time with Arsenal, though he would still be available to play in Europe.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho has backed John Terry to earn a new contract with the club, according to Sky Sports.

The Blues captain was used sparingly by interim manager Rafael Benitez last term, but has played every minute in the league so far this season following the return of Mourinho.
