Conte Looks Ahead to Conquering Europe

With the 2016-17 Premier League title Chelsea’s to lose now, questions are already being raised as to how much further Antonio Conte will go with his brilliant rebuilding project. Rumours suggest that Roman Abramovich will be providing the impressive Italian with a war chest of £100 million to spend in the summer. The former Juventus manager will look to bring in world-class players who can take this awesome Blues side back to the summit of the European elite.

Chelsea topped off a fine start to the New Year with a victory over Hull City followed by a draw with Liverpool in the league.

The Blues were heavily tipped to breeze past the Tigers, but the Anfield fixture represented a tougher test. Earning that point helped Conte’s men stave off the Liverpool challenge, though, and Jürgen Klopp’s men now appear out of contention in the race for the trophy.

The Blues are in such a strong position that they can now look ahead to reasserting themselves among the European heavyweights. It seems an eternity since the London side triumphed in the Champions League against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, but under Conte it is conceivable that they will soon be hitting those heights once more.

Abramovich has so much faith in the fine work that Conte is doing that he will give him the funds to bring in some serious reinforcements in the summer, and reports suggest that a few big names are already on the list. The Metro believes that Alvaro Morata, Virgil Van Dijk, and Moussa Dembele are the Italian’s primary targets when the season ends.

Diego Costa stayed at Stamford Bridge after speculation he may have been set for a move to the Chinese Super League. But the superb striker may decide he wants to move on after seeing out the current campaign. Morata would represent a direct replacement for the formidable Costa, whereas Dembele (see video above) would provide a different option. According to Conte, Michy Batshuayi isn’t strong enough to cope in England’s top flight, but Dembele has experience at Celtic against hard-tackling Scottish defences.

Van Dijk has made a name for himself as one of the strongest defenders in the league, and has many years ahead of him. He could be a solid acquisition for Chelsea’s future.

Without European commitments this season, Conte has been able to use a core unit to conquer the league. But he will have to make clever additions that can slot straight into the current mould in the next campaign as he looks to battle on all fronts.
